a few fave things in one convenient location
When you think of good things like “holiday”, “relax”, “vacation” do you picture palm trees and blue seas.
Me too. We’re not special. It seems most of choose to go coastal in our free time.
And there’s some good, healthy evidence our beach love is due to it’s natural health & happiness boosting properties.
Hi I’m Beachiness. My interest in beach health and wellness was sparked by a crappy incurable cancer diagnosis over a decade ago.
For years before diagnosis, getting sicker, but thinking I was just hungover, I regularly hit the beach for a boost.
Immediately after diagnosis, beach time became more important, it simply made me feel better. At the same time, a lot of well meaning peeps spammed me with the latest health & wellbeing info. And I got curious: why so many specific and spurious things to avoid or adopt (like carbs or kale or juice or bi-carbonate of soda), but beachtime…never on the list?
(Bicarb is fab, kale is good for you, and even juice and carbs can be healthy and happy, I’m just not into demonising or glorifying a single ingredient or nutrient).

beach facts
Human health, holidays & beaches have a long history. Ancient Greeks were fans of seaside health retreats. Ancient Romans created what seems to be the first debauched-party-beach-town.
✦
Studies continually find that we feel better and generally healthier when being beachy.
✦
Feel good factors and chemicals coalesce at the coast, for example; the colour blue, calming white noise, vitamin D and negative ions.
✦
The things we tend to do at the beach — walking, exploring, swimming, digging and dozing are fab for our heads and bods (and align with the recommendations about exercise, rest and play made by mental and physical health experts).
See 🙂 turns out “healthier” is not about adopting or avoiding a single element, like carbs or kale. Instead it’s a delicious cocktail of good things coming together. Like the beach.

naturally finding ways to feel better
Beachology skincare is simply a result of finding ways to feel better. For me, cancer treatment is a hormonal assault that seems perfectly designed to create bad skin: no oestrogen and obnoxious doses of synthetic progesterone.
Without oestrogen, signs of ageing like dullness and dryness quickly started to started to show all over my body. And a progesterone side effect = extra-clogged, irritated and acne-prone skin. Acne + aging in tandem. Hmmph.
Happily, skin health was one of the few things I learned I could control in a situation that’s still mostly out of my control.
Exploring skin + hormones + ingredients, narrowed down what I wanted, and what I didn’t.
wanted:
- science-backed, skin improving ingredients like vitamin B3 and vitamin C.
- barrier-building, pore clarifying oils, high in linoleic acid and protective phytonutrients, like hemp, watermelon and cucumber
- naturally nourishing, non-irritating, plant derived ingredients like bladderwrack and papaya.
not wanted
- known irritants & hormone disrupters
- synthetic fragrances
- petroleum-derived ingredients which could easily be replaced by more sustainable choices.
Surprise
Surprise
It was difficult to find products made only with science-backed, naturally nourishing, non-compromised ingredients.
So I started to make skin care for myself.
My skin got better. ☺
I started to make products for friends and family, and they started asking for more.
More smiles ☺☺☺
So, if you’ve scrolled this far… thanks. The summery (pun intended) is: Beachology skincare is all about fabulous ingredients – that work – & smiles.
